On 10/2/21 we hosted our first in-person tournament and it was, I dare say, a smash hit. We had 48 (of 48) competitors plus a couple spectators and a handful of crew members from 4 different states that came to little ole Winston Salem to compete for crown and cash. Bracket play and IRL side events took place at Mixxer Maker Space. With an open floor plan, modular tables, outlets and cables everywhere, and a solid internet connection it was the perfect space to host our first local event. Bracket play started at 6 and the grand finals wrapped up at 9:15. We had a room with extra stations set up for friendlies and the IRL side event was a CRT TV smash. Around 8:00pm one of our main TO's, Paul started taking set-ups over to Radar Brewing Company for continued friendlies at the after party. No after party would be complete without live music and the young local rock band ZiNC put on one hell of a show.
We also managed to throw together one of our more elaborate twitch streams utilizing old tech and new. I'm still editing down the live stream vod to post the matches up on our YouTube Channel. Here's a direct link to that YouTube Play List. Some new elements we brought to an old tournament style - Handmade wooden event badges instead of laminated paper and handmade top 5 awards that were custom engraved with the winners names on the spot at Mixxer Maker Space.
